Mini Skirts - yes or no?

The pattern above would be cute made today at the above-the-knee length shown at right. But I would have never worn the mini length - my mother would never have let me out of the house!

I don't like clothes that require the wearer to be careful. That's one reason out of many why I don't like short skirts. I don't like fussing with my clothes, or watching how I sit or stand or lean over. I think skirts that are too short are sexist and make women appear childlike and undignified. I think that the super short skirts offered by stores like Anthropologie and Forever 21 are silly. But hey- that's my opinion. What do you think? Are short-short skirts a tool of male oppression (which sadly deluded women unthinkingly buy) or are they cute?

Right. I would like to say that short-short skirts are the demon tool of the male-dominated society which has forced itself on to the impoverished feminine population FOR TOO LONG NOW.

What I really would say is "Short-short skirts. Heinous to those of us with heinous legs. Kinda cute to those of us who gots the gams."

Mostly I think, "Reality sucks."

I don't think about the feminist side, I just don't want to be fooling with the clothes, like you said in your post. Also, for me, I lack the pretty legs that a skirt like that would need. My legs are thin, but past 40 and veiny. I don't feel comfortable with anything too far above the knee.

I almost always agree with you but not this time. :-) Short skirts are cute, especially on tweens and young teens. Older women from 20-ish on--->not so much. I definitely don't see them as oppressive. In the 60s I wore short skirts but not minis. By the 70s I was wearing earthy clothing.

The funny thing is that the skirt is the same length in both pictures. It's just that the illustration has such long legs that it looks right above the knee. I bet whoever made the pattern would sadly end up with the length photographed. You know how tricky those patterns are.

I'm shocked how short my skirts used to be. I'm so overly cautious now I don't know how I did it back then.
