Why didn't I think of That?

My new patterns arrived this weekend and I am very excited to try making the Sencha Blouse from Colette Patterns.
I was mulling over how I was going to solve the puzzle of the buttoned-up back (I have limited mobility, and it would be difficult for me to button it) when I read the the Slapdash Sewist's blog today and she said that she would turn the back of a pattern into a neck slit with one button. And I had one of those epiphanies! Yes! That's exactly what I'll do. As you can see by the pieces on this picture,

Placing the back pieces on the fold and doing a faced slit, or doing a seamed back and then a hemmed slit would be super easy (child's play, she says, hopefully).
I'll let you know how it works out. We get the best ideas from our sewing friends, don't we?

I lowered/widened the neck a little, which had the added advantage of letting me slip the the shirt over my head while still buttoned. (Although, because of the waist shaping, I have to leave the bottom two buttons undone. But they are pretty easy for me to do up. I supposedly have unlimited mobility and doing up back buttons is still a pain.)

I've had the same thoughts, for me because back buttons tangle in my hair which drives me nuts. I wonder about getting the waist section past shoulders and "the gals" if I do a center back seam. Our Slapdash friend frequently mentions small bust adjustments, but I have to do an FBA. Haven't taken the pattern out of the envelope yet for a flat measure. I'm leaning towards a center-back invisible zipper, but haven't made a fabric decision yet. Will be very interested to see what you do.

That's a very cool idea, I'll be interested to see how it goes!

Cutting the back on the fold and doing a faced keyhole is such a good idea! Maybe I will have to break down and buy this pattern to go with my new silk acquisition. Of course, that would defeat the purpose of the silk being such a bargain! (or maybe just even it out???)
