Sewing Attention Deficit Disorder

I know I'm not the only one. Venus de Hilo has it too. It's the lure of the new, bright beginnings, pretty colors, I want it now. She listed all of her works-in-progress, and I realized that in spite of my vow to complete each project after I started it (I promise!) when we finished my new sewing studio, I have been BAD. Currently I have the following in various stages of not-finished: blue linen capris that only need hand hemming, a Sidelines Quilt, an Apron (a gift), batik drawstring pants, and two Hawaiian shirts that need buttonholes and buttons. And I'm planning a baby quilt right now. Bad me.
Do you keep starting new things before you finish the old ones? What is it about new stuff?

We're definitely not alone! There's something irrisistible about taking action on a creative impulse. Finishing things is nice, too, but that feeling of satisfaction is differnt from the intrigue and anticipation that prompt a new project. I like having lots projects going at the same time, and don't necessarily consider it a bad thing... although it does take me longer to finish things because I jump around so much.

Wait. They're supposed to be finished??

I'm a bit obsessive about my sewing projects---at least this past year, I do only on at time, and finish it (except perhaps hemming) before I start another.

I like this, but it's pretty much the exact opposite of my approach to anything else in my life. I wish I could make my sewing mode more broadly applicable.

I love the "new stuff" because each new project engenders the possiblity of a new feeling of satisfaction. (Or grief, depending on how it turns out!!).
