Nothing New Added

Doesn't this new Simplicity 1659 remind you of this?:

That was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw it.
While looking at the new Simplicity patterns to see if I needed a new pattern to use for something silk, I thought, "Is everyone pregnant??" (Not that there is anything wrong with that  but doesn't everything seem kind of ...loose?) Like Simplicity 1667. Pretty, but when I asked Mr. Hunting Creek his opinion, he made a face. Not a happy face..
This might be the most unfortunate Prom Dress ever:

What's that drape thingie supposed to do? Gratuitous use of floaty fabric, it seems to me.
1661 looks like a wardrobe malfunction just waiting to happen:

Just a little breeze and oops!
The only one I could contemplate making out of my silk was

Which only shows that I have a 1940's sensibility, or that I don't like too much fabric floating all around me.
So I didn't buy any new patterns..The new ones didn't inspire me. If I'm going to go to all the effort of making something, I like to be inspired.
I have no excuse now but to use what I already have. My silk fabric is in the prewash. (yes, you can wash silk.) I hate dry cleaning, so I wash almost everything. .
Mr. Hunting Creek was relieved that February was not "Buy some more Silk Fabric Month", when I showed him my schedule. (He doesn't care if I buy fabric but he does like to tease me about not sewing the "good stuff"..)
What are you sewing in February? Something silk and "too good to use", I hope.

I'm joining you for February!

Iris got me over too good to use by constantly badgering me to sew up the blue/black silk/rayon fabric she forced me to buy for her. I can't photograph is because it appears to have disappeared into the ether. Grrr.

She wonders if it got lost in the laundry. I ask if it got lost in the black hole that is her room. Grrr. It was lovely.

In Feb, I'm going to sew something selfish in silk!

Thanks for visiting my blog :) I'm with you on those new patterns. Way too much sloppiness for me. I really want to see that vintage one up close though.

I'm cutting into some Liberty of London fabric soon, both for my etsy shop and for myself. I kind of die a little bit every time I cut into that stuff.

I have to agree about the new Simplicity patterns - BORING! I am not a fan of the potato sack look, especially on me. I like fabric, but I don't want it to look like I just draped it around myself fresh off the bolt.

I sometimes get sucked in by the shapeless styles, because in fashion shoots they can look so chic. But actually on me? No to the no. I bought that '40s pattern, so I'm right there with you!

I haven't sewn any silk this month, but I did sew a "special" piece of wool purchased two years ago. I am not totally happy with the dress (boo) but I am happy that it's sewn.

Agree! These styles make the models look bigger....maybe they assume we don't know how to get a good fit, so they just make everything super loose?
